INEE Global Consultation Benelux Consultative Event

Date:  Wednesday 14 May 2014
Time: 15:00 – 18:00, with drinks after
Location: University of Amsterdam

War Child Holland, as a member of the INEE Minimum Standards Working Group, and the IS Academie Education and International Development at the University of Amsterdam, hosted a consultative event for INEE members in the Benelux countries. The main aim of the event is to complete, as a regional group, the INEE 2014 Global Consultation template, for the global, regional (i.e. EU) and country levels. The event also provides the opportunity to share information and identify potential for collaboration.

The event is introduced by a presentation from Mieke Lopes Cardozo (University of Amsterdam) and Mario Novelli (University of Sussex), addressing current issues in education and conflict, arguing how the context of and theories on (drivers of) conflict are often too little addressed.

Charles de Vries, Senior Policy Advisor from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands, who is a member of the INEE Working Group on Education and Fragility, responds to the presentations from a policy perspective. He stresses the need for more collaboration between different actors in the field.

Jonathan Penson, Senior Education Adviser, War Child Holland, frames the debate by posing some key questions on education’s position in the post-2015 development framework.

IS Academie Education and International Development is thankful to Jack van Cooten and Nathalie Metheuver who volunteered in organising this event, and have been great assistance.
