Inti obtained a M.A. in Educational Sciences (with distinction) at the University of Amsterdam and a M.A. in Education at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).
Inti has undertaken a PhD research within the research group Education and Development at AISSR/ University of Amsterdam. In the context of this project she also works together with the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in the research group ‘law 10.639 and the teaching of geography’ coordinated by prof. Renato Emerson dos Santos.

In her research project entitled ‘Construction of a Curriculum that includes Race Issues: From National Curriculum Guidelines to Pedagogical Practices and Strategies in Schools for Primary and Secondary education in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’, Inti focuses on the inclusion of ethnicity/ race issues in the contemporary Brazilian education curriculum. Thereby focus in her project goes to the dialectical process between the governance of ethnicity/ race issues in education and the strategies and pedagogical practices actors within schools develop to work with these issues in the school context.

Inti’s main experience and interest lies in themes of social justice in education; diversity/ ethnicity/ race issues in education; minorities and education; role of social movements in education reforms and; teacher training.
She worked on similar topics before, also when working as a researcher in the research groups ‘The multicultural classroom: Processes of inclusion and exclusion’ (Hogeschool Utrecht, The Netherlands) and the NPS/ NWO research project ‘Interaction in the multicultural classroom’ (Hogeschool Utrecht & Rijks Universiteit Groningen, The Netherlands).

She obtained practical experience as an educator/ project coordinator in the social inclusion project Cybersoek (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and in several NGO initiatives in both Chile (Concepción and Valparaíso) and Brazil (Rio de Janeiro).

During the last years she was involved in the organization of one local and one regional academic event: the ‘5th Seminar Education and the Afro-descendent Population: Basis for Teaching on Ethnic-racial Relations’ held at the Federal University Rio de Janeiro (UFF), Niteroi, Brazil in December 2008 and the international seminar ‘Decolonisation and Education’ held in La Paz, Bolivia in October 2008 (see Events).
