Xavier Bonal

Xavier Bonal is a Special Professor in Education and International Development at the University of Amsterdam and Professor in Sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He is director of the Globalisation, Education and Social Policies (GEPS) research group at the Department of Sociology of the UAB and a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Centre on Educational Policy (GIPE).

Professor Bonal’s work focuses on the areas of education policy, educational inequalities, globalisation and education and the right to education. He has widely published in national and international journals and is author of several books on the referred topics.

Professor Bonal is currently director of the GLOBED Project, the first European Masters on Education Policies for Global Development funded by the EU under the Programme Erasmus +. He has been member of the Network of Experts of Social Sciences and Education (NESSE) (2006-2010) of the European Commission and is member of the Editorial Board of several international journals of education policies and educational development. He has worked as a consultant for international organisations like the European Commission, UNICEF, UNESCO and the Council of Europe. Between 2006 and 2010, Xavier Bonal was Deputy Ombudsman for Children’s rights at the Office of the Catalan Ombudsman.
